what is forest bathing?

Mindfulness in the Woods

Forest Bathing or Shinrin Yoku is a practice developed by the Japanese beginning around 1982. It has since been widely integrated into their medical practices and culture.

Practicing forest bathing "invitations" or mindfulness exercises within nature has been shown to provide benefits such as:

  • Reduced cortisol levels decreasing stress levels
  • Decrease in depression
  • Enhanced mood and well-being
  • Improved immune system

Mindfulness in nature can be practiced in many different places including your own backyard! See below for self-guided tours and resources.
