The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is an internationally renowned program celebrating it's 30th year, and we'd like to bring it to our home town community of Sheboygan, WI in honor of Pay Pay's grandpa/my dad Dr. Ronald Kirk Haas. DPIL enrolls children and families sending them a free monthly book addressed to the child, from birth all the way up to age 5!
As a tenured college professor Lakeland University in Sheboygan County, Dr. Haas was a huge advocate for higher education and specifically for reading. One of his favorite things to do with his only grandchild was to read to her, and he always encouraged me from an early age.
He passed away this April 2025 from a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, and we can't think of a better way to remember and honor him. We hope his Legacy of Literacy will live on and encourage reading for hundreds of families by bringing this program to Sheboygan and hopefully beyond.
